Ear Training/Relative Pitch

"....Now tie this all in...to your ears, or your listening abilities. The objective is to get it to where, as you're playing through these intervals, you can hum the...4th above, for instance (or distinctly identify the pitch of the 4th in your head)...before actually playing it. Then check to see if you were right."

"It doesn't matter if you're a good singer or not...just get that note in your head. Drill this until you're consistently singing the note, or hitting the note in your mind, before you play it on your bass. This investment of time & effort toward developing good, accurate relative pitch...is one of the most valuable and practical things you can do to enhance your ability to play with others."
